Youth Program

As children grow into teenagers, they experience many unique changes. Physiological, cognitive, psychological, and emotional changes during their transition into adulthood can contribute to great frustration. It is not always a smooth transition as they become more susceptible to their environment and possessive and negative influences. Immigration and being black add multiple layers of difficulty for youth from the East African community. Our youth clients have to navigate factors like systemic bias, language barriers, financial and food insecurity, social exclusion, unhealthy family dynamics, etc.

At Immigrant Outreach Society, we recognize how these external pressures can negatively affect the development of children and youth if the right support is unavailable. IOS has developed a youth program to guide youth on a positive trajectory towards an enriched, positive life. Through our mental health-focused child and youth programming, we have built an excellent program which not only aids in the personal development of our youth but also prepares them for life as the leaders of tomorrow. In summary, our youth programs effectively empower youth in the community to reach their dreams and potential through school support, career preparation, mentoring, coaching, peer learning, and conversations.
