Although both men and women can be victims of GBV, women are, on average, more susceptible to violence. Qualitative research conducted by Statistics Canada highlights that Black women and newcomer women are at greater risk of experiencing high levels of GBV. Women become more susceptible as inflation, cost of living, and unemployment continue to rise within our city. The demands for GBV services within the East African community correlate with this reality. In response to the demands for these services, the Immigrant Outreach Society has constructed a GBV program to address these issues.
